Our Elders
Our elders are hard-working and dedicated to our church family. These men along with their families use their gifts to be a blessing to the church and strive to live an example of godly living. They spend a lot of their time in preparing sermons, counselling church members, leading events, and much more. God has certainly blessed Elizabeth Chapel Church with these dedicated men and their families. To learn more, click an elder's picture
Our Deacons
Our deacons and their wives help serve the church. They are actively supporting the church body, teaching Bible Studies, and handling any issues that may arise in the church. Not to be confused with our trustees, who tend to the physical church building, our deacons tend to the needs of the church.
Where We Have Been (Our History)
Elizabeth Chapel Church originally was located on the hill below the village of Thivener; an old settlement built around a mill, which was established early in the 19th century by Nicholas Thevinen, one of the French 500.
The Church was organized about 1868 by the Bible Christian denomination and named after the daughter of Hugh Plymale, Sr., Elizabeth Plymale Berridge, wife of Cornelius Berridge. The first sanctuary was built on land given by Hugh Plymale, Sr. and dedicated on October 26, 1870. That first church building burned on a Sunday morning in 1900. The church building was rebuilt and completed in 1904. The first ministers of the new church were Hiram Grover, John Porter, and Samuel Lewis. The church body grew and flourished so that many additions and add-ons were constructed to hold the growing congregation. |
In 1959, Pastor Alfred Holley was hired to be the senior pastor of Elizabeth Chapel Church. Alfred preached as head pastor for 5 years and then took two years off. He was rehired in 1966 and served as the senior pastor until 2007. He is still on staff at the church as an associate pastor.
Randy Carnes was elected as senior pastor in 2007, with Mark Beaver and Alfred Holley as associates. All our pastors have taught us to set high goals and expect great things from God. As we outgrew the building and had no more room left to expand our facility, the decision was made to move to Gallipolis in 2010, into the former First Baptist Church building. The new location has opened the door for us to start countless new ministries, to impact people in the city and the blessing of acquiring the gymnasium on the property opened a much wider window of opportunity, and we pray the Lord continues to bless. In 2014 Elizabeth Chapel Church voted to restructure its leadership and become an elder-led church. Our elders tend to the spiritual needs of the church, deacons tend to the needs of the church body, and our trustees tend to the physical church building where we gather. |
